Spring Meeting 2017


Every effort will be made to adhere to the programme shown but last-minute changes may occur.

09:30 – 10:00 Registration and refreshments.
10:00 – 10:25 Welcome, followed by Annual General Meeting.
10:25 – 11:30 Underground Vietnam. Andrew Smith's photographic guide to the wartime and more recent underground sites of Vietnam.
11:30 – 11:40 Comfort break. Please note that refreshments are not available.
11:40 – 12:45 Hidden 20th Century Military Sites in Wales. Medwyn Parry of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales describes some lesser known military sites in Wales including those of the munitions industry.
12:45 – 13:55 Lunch break. A buffet lunch is included for all delegates. This will be in a nearby room.
13:55 – 15:00 Black Propaganda Radio. Michael A Kushner, a guide and lecturer at Bletchley Park, describes wartime misinformation by the Political Warfare Executive and others.
15:00 – 15:40 Afternoon break with refreshments.
15:40 – 16:45 The Merseyway Tunnel in Stockport. Phil Catling, the legendary Tunnel Inspector, narrates his odyssey under Stockport in search of, amongst other things, some wonderful 1930's concrete and the tale of the adaption of Europe's widest bridge.
16:45 – 17:15 Members’ contributions. Members are invited to give a short presentation on their recent discoveries or activities. Video and computer projection facilities will be available.
